Odfrey Otunge, commander of the Kenya-led Multinational Security Assistance Mission (MMAS), said the armed reinforcement should be in this capital by late September.
The Bahamas government is yet to announce a date to dispatch its 150 officers to Haiti, as it intends to send an administrative mission before military deployment instead, as previously stated by Bahamian Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell.
The troops are in the pre-deployment phase but agreements on the status of those military personnel must first be inked to ensure their legal protection, Mitchell explained.
“The signing of agreements to guarantee the legal protection of the troops remains one of the leading obstacles to that purpose,” the Le Facteur Haiti digital newspaper informed.
