Bolivian Ministry will seek maximum punishment for drug traffickers

La Paz, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia's Ministry of Government opened a criminal file against Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset, and is preparing the greatest legal efforts to achieve the maximum sentence for those involved.

“(…) Within the processing of this criminal case, the participation of the Ministry of Government was rejected, however, due to the legal actions raised (…) guardianship was granted to the Ministry of Government,” a statement said. “Having the possibility of full participation, we will use all legal mechanisms to reach a conviction for the maximum penalty,” concludes the statement from that institution.

The Departmental Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Cruz recognized the Ministry of Government as part of the process, which is why it may intervene as a procedural subject.

Marset, Erland Ivar García, his trusted man, and others are being investigated for trafficking with controlled substances.

Since mid-July, the Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office has been analyzing various options, including extradition, after the capture of Marset’s spouse, Gianina García, at the airport in Madrid, Spain.

The arrested woman has been accused by Bolivia for forged instruments, material falsification, trafficking of controlled substances, criminal association and conspiracy, and other crimes. However, according to a Paraguayan investigation, in the context of the “A ultranza Py” operation, García is accused of drug trafficking and money laundering at the same level of incidence as her husband.

Marset became the most wanted criminal in the region for his ties to drug trafficking in Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil and Bolivia, where he set up businesses to launder his illicit income. Currently, he is considered a “high value and dangerous” criminal, as he had a security group equipped with military-standard weapons.
