Paraguayan experts forecast noxious rainfalls from forest fires

Asuncion, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) The Director of Meteorology and Hydrology of Paraguay, Eduardo Mingo, warned Wednesday of the possibility of unhealthy black rainfalls, as a result of polluted air from the fires in the North of the country.

Mingo indicated the water will disseminate the pollution particles and deposit them on surfaces, while staining walls and outdoor facilities.

The fires in the Northern region have brought about a cloud of rarefied air, which covers almost all the national territory, prompting health authorities to issue an epidemiological warning and measures to avoid possible respiratory disorders.

According to data from the National Forestry Information System Directorate, in 2023 Paraguay recorded over 11,000 fires, which significantly damaged forests.

The same source concluded that most of the fires come from illegal burning of garbage, bushes, fields and pastures, as a cultivation practice.

Recently, the Government announced actions to strengthen legal and administrative measures against those who threaten the environment.
