The tragic toll was released in a report on the government’s law-making conference held today, where Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh Chinh called for mobilizing the entire political system to participate and take response measures to overcome the consequences of the devastating storm.
Ministries, sectors, agencies and localities should be on 24-hour alert to respond and solve urgent problems, especially floods and landslides caused by persistent rains in northern provinces and cities, he said. The Vietnamese Government chief urged to focus on rescuing victims and missing people, giving medical care to the injured, taking care of the funeral of the unfortunates and quickly stabilizing the situation, as well as
to ensure the supply of food and necessities to the people in the affected areas.
He also called on local governments to be active in evacuating people from areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides, to guarantee traffic, electricity and communications, and to closely monitor the evolution of rains and floods to adopt timely measures to guarantee the safety and lives of the inhabitants.
