Moscow: Russia-Iran cooperation does not violate international law

Moscow, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) Military-technical cooperation between Tehran and Moscow does not violate international law or affect the regional balance in the Middle East, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.

The diplomat, who commented on Western sanctions against Iran, reiterated that cooperation is not contrary to Russian domestic law, and if the United States insists on the issue of Tehran’s supplies to Moscow, that’s its problem, says the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“Malicious inventions” are the only thing coming from Washington regarding Russia’s policy and its interaction with other states, Ryabkov said. “We will act in accordance with our own interests and the goals of developing equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with all countries interested in this, including the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.

On September 10th, the US authorities announced a tightening of the sanctions regime against Iran and added several Iranian individuals and entities to a list of restrictions linked to Russia. These include Iran Air, Azadegan Transportation Company, Amad Behineh Saz Engineering Company and the Sanjesh Gostar Dana Engineering and Quality Control Inspection Company.

According to the US administration, the new measures were imposed in particular in connection with the alleged transfer of unmanned vehicles and missiles from Iran to Russia.

Moscow and Tehran have repeatedly rejected reports of Iranian arms supplies to Russia for use in Ukraine.

The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said on Wednesday that Iran had not supplied Russia with any ballistic missiles and that the United States and Europe were relying on inaccurate information.
