Without US blockade Cuba would find better solutions, says FM

Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said on Thursday that Cuba's problems would have a better and more effective solution without the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States.

Appearing on national television Rodríguez offered details on the report that will be forwarded on October to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in line with Resolution 78/7, under the title “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.”

Speaking to local and foreign media, the diplomat referred that if this hostile policy did not exist, Cuba’s gross domestic product (GDP) could have grown by eight percent in 2023.

The effects of an aging population and high emigration flow in Cuba have been more noticeable in the last few years, and even more so in the last few months, a scenario that would have been very different had there not been a blockade, the document points out.

Rodriguez noted that the historic siege by the US on the Island country has been aggravated by an aggressive policy of maximum pressure, implemented by former US President Donald Trump and maintained during the administration of current President Joe Biden.

The Cuban report provides data on the grave consequences of the US blockade, which, he pointed out, have brought worldwide condemnation of this injustice.
