Cuba’s education sector suffers the effects of the blockade

Havana, Sep 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban students, who today are studying from general education to university, suffer every day in the classrooms the effects of the U.S. blockade, intensified with the purpose of subverting the revolutionary process.

According to estimates, 38 hours without the blockade would make available the 21 million, 789 thousand dollars needed to finance the educational system in 2024.

Between March 2023 and February 2024, the restriction in the import plans and the partial or even total cancellation of contracts forwarded to the Cuban educational sector represented a significant damage to the resources planned for the development of this area.

For this reason, last year the production of 4.5 million pencils couldn’t be reached and Editorial Pueblo y Educación was also unable to complete the texts for the third improvement of the National Education System.

The intensification of the U.S. policy limits academic exchanges and makes it impossible for Cuban professors and specialists to participate in numerous virtual events. According to a report of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with all the above, the deterioration of the economic situation of the country has had an impact on the increase of departures, especially of professors with teaching and scientific categories, who have chosen other more profitable economic activities.

Recently, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced that the blockade is mainly responsible for the shortages suffered by the Cubans.
