Palestinian leader denounced historical US support for Israel

Ramallah, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) The historical bias of the United States and the growing influence of the extreme right-wing movements in Israeli politics have prevented in the last decades any agreement with the Palestinians, Fatah movement leader Sabri Saidam denounced today.

In an interview with Al Quds newspaper, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Oslo Accords, the politician criticized the position of Washington, whose authorities should have been “honest and impartial mediators”.

Consequently, the lack of neutrality of the White House and the political change in Israel following the growth of the right wing led to the birth of a state of violence in the occupied territories, he said.

Saidam recalled that the current Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, first came to power in 2009 with a discourse based on the rejection of the Oslo Accords.

The U.S. administration failed to manage that document and completely submitted to Israel, he stressed. “As a result, I think there were missed opportunities, lack of compromise and a total surrender to the Zionist vision,” he estimated.

The Fatah Central Committee member described as tragic the situation in which the Palestinians live today, in the midst of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip for more than 11 months.

A mentality of control and expansionism is currently prevailing in the neighboring nation, which is based on the concept of erasing the Palestinian identity and displacing our people, he said.
