Tropical Storm Pulasan may approach Japan

Tokyo, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned on Tuesday that a major tropical storm is gaining strength as it approaches the Okinawa Prefecture and the Amami region, in the country's southwestern region.

The scientific institution informed that Tropical Storm Pulasan was over waters near the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean and was moving northwest at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour.

Winds of up to 54 kilometers per hour are expected in the Okinawa region, with maximum gusts of 90 kilometers per hour.

More intense parameters are expected in both Okinawa Prefecture and the Amami region of Kagoshima Prefecture on Wednesday, while the sea will be stirred up on Thursday.

JMA informed that the storm has a central pressure of 996 hectopascals and maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometers per hour at its center.
