Bolivia and Venezuela celebrate 141 years of diplomatic relations

La Paz, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia and Venezuela will commemorate the 141st anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations with an event at the headquarters of the Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Venezuelan embassy confirmed.

Venezuelan ambassador César Trómpiz told Prensa Latina that the celebration is taking place “in the context of an excellent moment of ties between presidents, governments, foreign ministries and different institutions.”

Trómpiz recalled that Bolivia and Venezuela signed agreements at the meeting of the Binational Commission held in Caracas and there is a work flow to complete the memorandum signed by presidents Luis Arce and Nicolás Maduro.

“These documents focus on the possibility of Bolivia developing the Venezuelan gas fields, taking advantage of all the experience of the Bolivian gas industry for this new phase of this sphere in Venezuela,” said the diplomat.

“I am referring to a phase of exploitation and a phase of comprehensive use of Venezuelan gas, which until now has not been addressed as one of the main energy pillars of our country, since we have fundamentally dedicated ourselves to oil,” he explained.

Trómpiz stressed that the presidents’ initiative strengthens the possibility of Latin American companies participating in the exploration, exploitation and processing of Venezuelan gas, a path in which Bolivia is a pioneer.

The diplomat also reported that in terms of social cooperation, Venezuela offered 60 scholarships for Bolivian medical students, and commented that this year the call for applications will be extended to 200 scholarship recipients in various specialties.

In the energy field, Trómpiz stated that the two countries have a joint company, Petroandina, which works in different areas of the oil business. “Bolivia and Venezuela are currently a nucleus within the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty in a new phase of cooperation,” he emphasized.
