Under the decree, Al-Mekdad, who was in charge of the Foreign Affairs portfolio since 2020, will follow up the implementation of the foreign and media policy within the framework of the guidelines of the President of the Republic.
Al-Mekdad was born in the southern province of Deraa.
He joined the diplomatic corps in 1994, and was appointed in 2003 as Syria’s permanent delegate to the United Nations in New York. From 2006 to 2020, he served as deputy foreign minister.
