Dodoma, Sep 23 (Prensa Latina) The leaders of the Party of Democracy and Progress of Tanzania, Tundu Lissu and Freeman Mbowe, were arrested today, accused of calling for anti-government demonstrations.

According to a statement of this political grouping, Tundu Lissu -former presidential candidate- was arrested by the police at his home in Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital of the country, without informing his destination.

Meanwhile, Freeman Mbowe -president of the organization- was arrested along with a group of demonstrators in the Magomeni area, also in Dar es Salaam, after arriving in the area to lead a peaceful protest.

The leaders of the Tanzania Democracy and Progress Party called for a demonstration in Dar es Salaam today to demand that the government reveal the progress made in the investigation of abductions, disappearances and alleged killings of people.

Last September 7, Ali Mohamed Kibao, a leader of that political organization who had been kidnapped the day before, was found dead.

Government spokesmen said that the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, ordered the security forces to accelerate investigations and take action against the perpetrators, but so far no results have been obtained.
