Claudia Sheinbaum assumes Presidency of Mexico

Mexico City, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) Claudia Sheinbaum will mark the history of Mexico by becoming the first woman to assume the Presidency of a country governed by men, since the establishment of the Federal Republic 200 years ago.

According to the information released, around 09:00 local time the activities will begin at the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro, headquarters of the Congress of the Union and venue of the investiture ceremony.

After other actions planned as part of the event, the president of Congress, Ifigenia Martínez, will invite Sheinbaum to take the oath as constitutional president of Mexico before Congress and, subsequently, the outgoing president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will present the presidential sash.

The new ruler will give her first message to the nation and, in the afternoon of this same day, she will star in a rally in the Plaza del Zócalo in the capital.

Scheinbaum obtained a landslide victory in the elections on June 2nd, in which she surpassed 35.9 million votes, becoming the candidate with the most votes in the country’s recent history, with a very large advantage over her rivals.

The former head of Government of Mexico City (2018-2023) promised to continue López Obrador’s transformation project.

“I leave very happy because tomorrow I am going to hand over the presidential sash to an exceptional woman, full of love, humility, good feelings, a humanist,” said the outgoing president yesterday, who repeatedly highlighted Sheinbaum’s intelligence and ability for the position.
