Milton leaves US after causing deaths and severe damage in Florida

Washington, Oct 10 (Prensa Latina) Hurricane Milton is moving away from the US state of Florida today, leaving behind several deaths, severe damage to homes and infrastructure, flooding and more than three million customers without electricity.

Local media are circulating images of devastation: roofs blown into the air, fallen trees, strong floods, as well as rescue operations attempting to bring back normality in the aftermath of the storm, that made landfall last night as a Category 3 hurricane.

Milton’s powerful gusts seriously affected the roof of the Tampa Bay Rays’ home baseball stadium, Tropicana Field, in St. Petersburg, tearing off huge strips of its paneled roof.

Talking to press, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis anticipated this morning that there would be confirmed fatalities after Hurricane Milton due to various tornadoes.” CNN reported at least four fatalities.

“We anticipate that there will be confirmed fatalities from the tornadoes, and that has happened all along the east coast of Florida,” DeSantis said, adding that teams were engaged in rescue operations throughout the night.
