Uruguayans reject Govt. stance in the face of Israel’s genocide

Montevideo, Oct 10 (Prensa Latina) Several social organizations are currently taking different stances to the Uruguayan Government, regarding its support to Israel, and what they call silence in the face of the genocide against Palestine.

This was evidenced in the march that went through the center of this capital city, and set up a platform in front of the presidential headquarters, under the slogan “One year of this genocide.”

Among the speakers was the Palestinian Ambassador, Nadya Rasheed, who referred to the thousands of Palestinian victims that the Israeli onslaught causes, particularly in Gaza.

The Coordinating Committee for Palestine demanded a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the illegal occupation, demands endorsed by the UN General Assembly and the International Court of Justice.

Christian Mirza, of the Coordinating Committee, said that the Zionist regime acts with absolute impunity and the U.S. complicity and a large part of Europe.

Israel’s actions “cannot be justified either politically or morally,” he referred to the military offensive deployed after the Hamas operation a year ago.

In front of the Government’s house, a proclamation was read criticizing the official Uruguayan position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“To our shame, this is a stance totally aligned with genocide, far removed from our culture’s traditions of peace and solidarity,” the proclamation reads.

“Uruguay’s successive abstentions at the United Nations attempts to question Israel’s actions, place us on the side of the victimizers,” the rallies’ promoters warned, including the central PIT-CNT.

The document points out that “silence in view of Israeli crimes makes us accomplices of this genocide, and we will be accountable to history.”

Once again, the participants of the mobilization demanded the “immediate rupture of all types of relations with Israel.”
