Intense academic agenda during COP16 in Colombia

Cali, Colombia, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) An intense academic agenda will be developed at the United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP16) that is taking place in Cali.

The Ministry of Science of Colombia proposes a panel of experts who will discuss the advances, learnings and lessons learnt in the recognition, protection and use of traditional and ancestral knowledge systems; the Autonomous University of the West proposes several activities such as the International Meeting Economies for Life 2024 and the National Seminar on Forests; while the National Planning Directorate prepared talks about Agricultural Extension at the service of climate-adapted agriculture and Rural Communities protectors of Agrobiodiversity, among others.

Prior to the event, the Secretary of Education of Cali, Tatiana Aguilar, stated that for the District Administration it is essential to contribute from education through dialogue, regarding biodiversity and environmental care in order to guarantee the training of the youngest generations as part of society, to ensure that the 23 global goals on biodiversity can be materialized from the teaching sector.

The academic agenda is composed of 97 events, which will be distributed among forums, talks, circuits and other activities that will have the presence of local, national and international experts from universities and research centers from all over the country, as reported.

As the event’s president, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Susana Muhamad, said that there is great expectation that in the coming days there will be announcements of agreements between the negotiating parties.
