Ethiopia to highlight reforestation of degraded lands at COP29

Addis Ababa, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) During the COP29 that began today in Baku, Azerbaijan, Ethiopia will highlight its dedication to the reforestation of degraded lands and the implementation of practices for their sustainable use, reported the Ministry of Planning and Development.

The Ethiopian delegation attending the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) will explain the main advances of the Green Legacy Initiative launched in 2019 by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, a fundamental bet of the African country in the fight against climate change, with emphasis on agriculture, ecotourism and green energy.

According to the source, Addis Ababa plans to present its efforts to restore deforested areas and promote sustainable land management practices, in addition to using the event as a platform to promote climate protection strategies and establish partnerships.

It will also advocate for greater support to assist developing nations in their efforts to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis. The local government ministry recalled that COP29, scheduled to run until November 22, will be held under the theme ‘In Solidarity for a Green World’, emphasizing collective responsibility for environmental sustainability.

Key discussions will revolve around strategies to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, improve financial support for climate initiatives and promote sustainable solutions.

Other topics include energy supplies, human development, food security and biodiversity.
