According to the media, delegations from the guarantor countries of the so-called Astana Process (Russia, Turkeye and Iran), and representatives of the United Nations, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, are attending the meeting.
During the first day, bilateral and trilateral consultations will be held between the participating delegations, while a plenary session and a press conference will be held during the second day.
The Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan announced that the talks will address issues related to the development of the regional situation around Syria, efforts to achieve a comprehensive solution, confidence-building measures and the missing persons file, as well as the humanitarian situation, reconstruction and the return of Syrian refugees.
The final declaration of the previous meeting, held in January this year, stressed the firm commitment to sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity of Syria, and to the objectives and principles of the UN Charter.
In turn, the guarantor states condemned the repeated Israeli aggressions against Syrian territory and considered these actions a violation of international law and demanded an end to these destabilizing violations.
