Paris, Nov 23 (Prensa Latina) European politicians and union leaders repudiated today in France the extraterritorial character of the US blockade against Cuba at the opening day of the 19th European Continental Meeting of Solidarity with the island.

French communist legislator Andre Chassaigne denounced the legal framework and the persecution unleashed by Washington to impose on the world its aggressive policy against Cuba.

We must fight against this at all levels, the parliamentary leader asserted. Chassaigne presides in the French National Assembly the Group of the Democratic and Republican Left and the Group of Friendship with Cuba.

In his speech delivered in front of about 300 delegates from 30 European countries, Chassaigne acknowledged the resistance of the Cuban people in the face of aggressions, which he described as admirable. We feel here today the hearts beating in solidarity with Cuba, he said.

The communist leader urged the participants in the forum for a greater coordination and effectiveness of support to the island in the face of what he called the ignoble position of the United States.

In turn, Spanish politician Maite Mola, responsible for international relations of the European Left Party, criticized the blockade and its extraterritoriality and called for the unity of those in solidarity.

For his part, the French trade union leader Laurent Brun illustrated the extraterritorial character of Washington’s anti-Cuban crusade, evidenced in the obstacles that the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) finds in its campaigns in support of the Cuban people.

He particularly mentioned the hurdles in sending containers of aid to the island in areas such as health, an initiative launched by the CGT three years ago.

Brun asserted that the extraterritoriality of the blockade will not prevent the solidarity of French workers, and in this regard he announced new actions.
