Land adjudication regulated for peasant women in Colombia

Bogota, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) The issuance of Decree 1396 by the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, today adds to the actions being carried out in the country to promote Agrarian Reform and to close the gender gap.

The regulation, consisting in a special land adjudication program for rural and peasant women with the objective of improving their social and economic well-being, was also signed by Vice President Francia Márquez and the Minister of Agriculture, Martha Carvajalino.

In its content, the document recognizes the economic, social, cultural, environmental and political importance of women farmers in Colombia, in addition to ensuring that their rights are guaranteed.

The regulation establishes that the Ministry of Agriculture and the Rural Development Agency will provide support in the structuring, promotion and management of resources for rural women, whether on an individual, family or community basis. In addition, the beneficiaries will be able to access preferential credit lines to finance their activities, in agreement with the National Agricultural Credit Commission.

The decree also defines prioritization criteria for selecting those who will be eligible for the support contemplated in the regulation.
