Blinken assured on Wednesday that he “does not anticipate” any change in the US policy toward Cuba before President Joe Biden ends his term next month.
“I do not anticipate any change in our policy toward Cuba by this Administration,” the senior official said during an appearance before a congressional committee.
He repeated the same when asked whether the Biden Government would be analyzing Cuba’s possible removal from Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list.
“As I have said, I do not anticipate any change,” Blinken underscored.
Cuba was first added to the SSOT list during the Ronald Reagan administration in 1982, until 2015 when then-President Barack Obama removed it from that list during the last stage of his administration, as a process to approach the island.
However, in January 2021, a few days after leaving office, President Donald Trump included Cuba again to that list, a designation that Biden still maintains.
