Communist Party reviews progress in food production in Cuba

Havana, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) reviewed the progress in food production in the country and the actions to prevent and confront crime, on Thursday.

As part of the 9th plenary session of the political organization, the results of said agreements and the implementation of the Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Security Act were analyzed.

It was revealed at the meeting that encouraging results have been made in the sowing of various crops in the spring and cold campaigns, despite the negative impact of the intensification of the United States blockade and the complex economic situation in food production.

According to national television, visits by the top party leaders to municipalities across the country showed the good experiences of the work done by institutions like the La Cuba company, in Ciego de Avila province.

In this regard, PCC First Secretary and President Miguel Díaz-Canel stressed the importance of turning these experiences into rules, and expressed his confidence that the Cuban people have many potentialities to move forward.

The food production sector prioritizes the adequate hiring of producers, maximum pay to the territorial self-sufficiency programs and the development of urban, suburban and family agriculture.

It also focuses on strengthening municipal agro-industrial companies, 106 of which are already operating, and advancing the banking process.

Regarding the actions to prevent and confront corruption, crime, illegalities and social indiscipline, the members of the Central Committee emphasized the importance of control actions.

Attorney General Yamila Peña explained at the plenary session that they act with severity in the fight against these negative manifestations, and insisted on the need for a comprehensive approach in control and prevention actions.

Comptroller General of the Republic Miriam Marbán asserted that the control system is uncontrolled in the institutions and a lack of analysis of collateral responsibility.

“In the corruption cases that we analyze, it always appears that someone stopped doing what they were supposed to do, they stopped controlling at the right time and sometimes the problems are seen and they look the other way and we do not always demand that the analysis of collateral responsibility be done,” she said.

The party meeting also focused on the fight against drugs, a phenomenon that has increased in the country, according to Cuban authorities.

PCC Secretary of Organization Roberto Morales said that this phenomenon, which harms society, requires a comprehensive approach from education, the family, the school, the neighborhood and the community.

The plenary also highlighted the results of the national exercise against crime and illegalities that was carried out recently
