The event began on Wednesday night at the San Francisco de Asis Convent, where officials from Cuba Ron S.A. Corporation entertained the members of the Cuban Rum Masters Movement.
Rum and its associated know-how were declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2022 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).
Cuba Ron’s president, Andro Abon, opened the meeting by voicing his satisfaction at hosting the 7th International Forum, the venue of which was decorated on the occasion with memorabilia connected to rum’s history and Cuban identity, lasting for over 160 years.
Abon emphasized rum’s uninterrupted presence in the world by virtue of the scientific distilling methods and techniques it relies on.
The event paid homage to Masters Salome Aleman, Manuel Calderon, Julio Enrique Ayan and Tranquilino Palencia, who were awarded the 8th of October decoration, the highest recognition granted by the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers of Cuba, acknowledging outstanding scientific and technological contributions.
First Master and leader of the Movement of Rum Masters, Juan Carlos González, First Master César Augusto Marti, and the Masters Salome Aleman, Noemi del Toro del Toro, Francisco Javier Sabat, Manuel Calderon, Julio Enrique Ayan and Tranquilino Palencia, were awarded the 85th Anniversary of the Cuban Workers’ Union decoration.
The event’s theorical discussions will be hosted from December 11 to 13 will be held at the San Geronimo University College in Havana.
