Precisely the presence of some 15 dance couples from the Americas, Africa and Europe make the event take on a global nature, and in which there is also a competition for dance couples from the artistic teaching of Cuba.
In addition to a grand prize and the popularity award, which will be granted to the event where foreign couples compete, the jury will evaluate pairs from professional companies.
The organizing committee appointed teacher Bárbara Balbuena as the head of the jury, who would be accompanied by notable dancers and choreografies in Cuba such as 2023 National Dance Award winner José Antonio Chávez, or National Dance Methodologist Nitza Soltolongo.
An event sponsored by International Council of Folklore Festival Organizers, “it is the opportunity to do the best we can despite the country’s difficulties,” according to Fernando Medrano, the person in charge of the event.
Precisely, the director of the Camagua company is on the jury that will evaluate the dance couples, both professional and from the artistic teaching “who are the future of culture in Cuba,” according to Medrano himself.
At the beginning of the theoretical event, the presentation of a documentary by renowned art critic Yuris Nórido, “Súlkary, Clásico,” made reference to the legacy of Africa in Cuban dance and folklore.
