Fifteen Dominican police officers killed this year by criminals

Santo Domingo, Dec 17 (Prensa Latina) A total of fifteen police officers have been killed so far this year in the Dominican Republic by local criminals, prompting the National Police to vow on Tuesday that all those accountable will be brought to justice.

After admitting that in 2024 there have been eight casualties less than in 2023 in the force ranks, representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Rosalba Ramos, also emphasized the need to devise a law which severely punishes murderers.

In her words the death of a policeman is “very worrying”, especially when they are fulfilling their duty, and reiterated that officers are there to uphold national security and public order.

Minister of the Interior, Faride Raful, explained that currently the police force boasts a number of members never seen before in the country, who, together with the Armed Forces, are permanently on patrol to protect policemen and citizens at large.

She reiterated that they will not allow impunity in any of the cases, “nor that the delinquents feel that they are at ease and try to intimidate the authorities”, she pointed out.
