“It is not very credible, let’s put it that way. Fentanyl is produced in other ways (…) The photographs presented there are not credible, even because of the damage to health that it could cause for those who are ‘cooking’, as they say, these drugs,” explained the president in a press conference.
In her usual meeting with journalists, the dignitary pointed out that in the note “allegedly two reporters enter a laboratory” of that narcotic and maintained that “this issue of the New York Times comes from before in relation to drug production in Mexico.”
“Here with President (Andrés Manuel) López Obrador, some things were presented and there was already another report linked to, according to this, the co-optation of Chemistry students for the manufacture of very potent drugs, and now the one that was presented yesterday,” she said.
“This report is not very credible because of how it is being presented and we are going to prove it scientifically,” said Sheinbaum, who urged the newspaper to be serious with the information.
“All media have that responsibility and particularly on such delicate issues as the one that is being presented,” she argued.
By emphasizing that the government is doing its job and will continue to do so, the president maintained that the security strategy implemented will yield results.
She announced the upcoming presentation of a new campaign against the consumption of fentanyl and drugs in general and reiterated that in this Latin American nation, fortunately, there is no problem with the consumption of this synthetic opioid.
“We have to collaborate even for humanitarian reasons to prevent this pandemic of fentanyl consumption in the United States from continuing, to focus on not having this in Mexico and to prevent it from continuing in the United States, always with respect for our sovereignty,” he considered.
On the other hand, he asked questions such as what happens when the drug enters the neighboring northern country and how it is sold in American cities.
“Or are there no illegalities in the sale there? Who sells it there? Who distributes it? Where does the money from the sale of the drug go in the United States?” he said.
“So, just as we are dealing with the issue in our country, there must also be (occupation) on the part of the United States. And collaboration within the framework of respect that must always be given,” he stressed.
