Clarifying facts about attack in southeastern Mexico

Mexico City, Jan 5 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican government is working with Tabasco authorities to clarify the facts related to the attack on a bar in that state, said today the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García.

Through a message on his account on the social network X, the Secretary alluded to “the attack that occurred last night in a bar in Villahermosa” and disclosed that federal institutions are “in coordination with security authorities and the State’s law enforcement, to clarify the facts.”

According to press reports, a group of armed men opened fire the day before at the La Casita Azul bar, leaving five dead and seven wounded in that city in the southeast of the country.

The spokesman for the state government, Fernando Vázquez, referred to the deployment of a strong operation to find those responsible.

Official figures indicate that from October 1 to December 15 of the year just ended, Mexican authorities arrested 6,745 people for high-impact crimes and seized 3,023 firearms and 557,845 cartridges.

They also seized 61.1 tons of drugs, in addition to 1,168 kilograms and 428,578 fentanyl pills.

The government is implementing a national security strategy based on four axes of action: attention to the causes, consolidation of the National Guard, strengthening of intelligence and investigation, and coordination with the federal entities.
