I thank all those who contributed to the decision announced by the United States today to exclude Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, on which it should never have been and which, along with two other measures adopted, has had a high cost for the country and Cuban families, the president wrote on X.
It is a decision in the right direction, although late and with limited scope. The blockade and most of the extreme measures that were put in place since 2017 to suffocate the Cuban economy and cause shortages for our people remain in place, the head of State added.
He noted that Cuba will continue to confront and denounce the economic war and the actions of interference, disinformation and discredit financed with US federal funds.
“At the same time, we will not give up developing a civilized relationship with the US that respects our sovereignty,” Díaz-Canel pointed out.
After the decision adopted today by the White House, the Cuban Foreign Ministry described the measure as limited but in the right direction and in line with the global demand expressed by almost all countries in various forums.
