Cuba demands respect for ceasefire in Gaza

Havana, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez demanded respect for the ceasefire agreed upon in Gaza, and advocated for the establishment of the State of Palestine, on Thursday.

We hope that the Gaza ceasefire agreement will be respected in its three phases, the head of Cuban diplomacy wrote on his X propfile.

Rodriguez added that this pact could create a new opportunity for the solution of the long-term conflict between Palestine and Israel.

He also considered it essential to resolve the confrontation to establish an “independent Palestinian State within the pre-1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem” and urged to guarantee the safe return of refugees.

On Sunday, the Israeli government and the Palestinian militant group Hamas agreed to cease hostilities in Gaza, which is due to take effect next Sunday, allowing the release of Israeli hostages and facilitating the access of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory.

In addition, Israel must give up control of the Philadelphia Corridor, located on the Gaza border with Egypt.

In the last 15 months, the war in Gaza has resulted in at least 46,700 deaths, according to official reports.
