Cuba reiterates commitment to regular, orderly and safe migration

Havana, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez on Friday reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to dialogue and cooperation as ways to achieve regular, orderly and safe migration.

Speaking virtually at the meeting on Human Mobility on the Northern Route of the Continent, held in Mexico City, the head of Cuban diplomacy denounced the impact of the United States blockade on this issue.

In his appearance, Rodríguez pointed out that Washington’s blockade generates shortages and hardships for the people and affects the migration potential and the increase in the flow of people to the United States.

The head of the Cuban delegation, Anayansi Rodríguez, stressed that closing borders, carrying out mass deportations and criminalizing migration is not the solution to manage such a complex problem, which she described as one of the big global phenomena of our time.

She noted that resolving the current situation of prevailing poverty, inequality and inequity, particularly in developing countries, is imperative for a lasting solution and the achievement of orderly, safe and regular migration.

This also requires genuine international cooperation and the political will of developed countries, including compliance with Official Development Assistance, she noted.
