On its official X account, the Cuban Embassy in Beijing published the organization’s declaration in which Washington’s measure was described as a positive step although late and limited in its scope.
The Association considered that this change is a step towards the normalization of relations between the two countries, and expressed gratitude for the support from several countries and international organizations, especially China, for its solidarity with the Cuban people.
“Cuba should have never been on that slanderous list,” the statement said, emphasizing the Caribbean nation’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the United States on any issues, always with respect for its sovereignty.
The Association noted that this gesture marks the beginning of respectful dialogue that benefits both countries and the entire Latin American and Caribbean region.
Previously, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiankun stressed that Cuba’s inclusion on the list was groundless and violated its sovereignty and dignity.
He reaffirmed that the blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years continues to be a major obstacle to Cuba’s development and the well-being of its people.
Guo recalled that the resolution presented by Cuba at the United Nations General Assembly received overwhelming support for the 32nd consecutive year, demonstrating the world’s firm support for ending the blockade.
In addition, he urged the United States to stand on the right side of history and completely eliminate the economic blockade against Cuba.
The measure announced by the Joe Biden administration was welcomed in many countries, although Cuba recalled that the blockade and sanctions still in force are the biggest challenge to its economic and social development.
