Dominican Campaign welcomes removal of Cuba from US terrorist list

Santo Domingo, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Campaign for Solidarity with Cuba today expressed its satisfaction with the removal of that country from the spurious unilateral list of nations of supposed sponsors of terrorism, on which it should never have been.

In a text sent to the Cuban ambassador in the Dominican Republic, Ángel Arzuaga, the Campaign considered this decision by Washington a positive step, although at the end of President Joe Biden’s term.

At the same time, it affirmed that, although it values this decision, it does not solve the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade -in force for more than six decades- which does so much damage to the development of Cuba and its people.

“We are aware that when Donald Trump takes office as President of the United States next week, we run the risk that he will revoke the measure,” said the group formed on June 14, 1990.

“If this were to happen, we will stand firm in defense of the Cuban Revolution, its achievements and its government, because Cuba is an example of dignity and sovereignty for all peoples,” said the leadership of the Campaign on behalf of all its members.

President Joe Biden last Tuesday removed Cuba from the list of countries that promote terrorism, less than a week before being relieved by Donald Trump, who in his first term placed the Caribbean island on that list, which so affects Havana’s commercial relations.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the same day that, despite its limited nature, it is a decision in the right direction and in line with the demand of the government and the people of Cuba.

Also in line with the broad call of numerous governments, Cubans living abroad, political, religious and social organizations, as well as political figures from the United States and other nations.

The Foreign Ministry recalled that the economic blockade and a good part of the dozens of coercive measures in force since 2017 to reinforce it, with extraterritorial effect and in violation of International Law and human rights, remain in force.
