The Sudanese Foreign Ministry expressed in a statement issued this Friday that the measure shows confusion and a lack of sense of justice.
The Ministry’s document also highlights the strangeness of this decision, which comes after Washington concluded that paramilitaries are committing genocide in Sudan.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Thursday that Al-Burhan has repeatedly obstructed the peace process in Sudan, and accused him of undermining peace efforts and impeding the political transition to a civilian government.
On January 7, the United States also sanctioned General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), for genocide and the systematic killing of civilians for ethnic reasons.
