The two newspapers hailed, in extensive articles, outgoing US President Joe Biden’s decision on Tuesday to remove Cuba from that list, among other measures, as a crucial step in the fight against the US blockade, despite its limited scope.
Both media stated that the Cuban president considered the US move a victory for the Cuban people, and we also shared it globally with friends who have supported us.
The Herald and Chronicle also highlighted the Cuban president’s reception of Zimbabwe’s President special envoy Simbarashe Mumbengegwi at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana, and the delivery of a message from President Mnangagwa.
Diaz-Canel spoke of the two countries’ struggle against unjust US sanctions, reiterated his commitment to strengthen bilateral relations, and praised Harare’s solidarity on the global scene.
The two newspapers echoed Mumbengegwi’s gratitude for Cuba’s unwavering support during the African nation’s struggle for independence. They noted, “Cuba was the smallest country geographically, but it was the one that contributed the most to our liberation struggle.”
