The drought that extends since the end of the previous year in much of the country, affects pastures and livestock feed.
The dairy sector is coming off adverse runs since the historic drought of 2023, although it has shown a rebound in the last half of 2024.
However, the absence of significant rainfall dries out grasslands and prevents sprouting.
“It’s starting to get complicated,” Ramiro Lema, a dairy farmer in Canelones, said.
Lema said he began to use the food reserves and commented on the effects of milk on the industry.
