Bolivian Electoral Tribunal gives certainty on general elections

Havana, 18 January (Prensa Latina) The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) tried this week to give Bolivians certainty about the holding of the general elections next August, with a cooperation agreement with the judges of the Supreme Constitutional Court.

The TSE held a meeting on Thursday to exchange criteria and experiences. The body has drawn up a document with the main objective of giving Bolivians certainty about the general election process slated for August, its president Oscar Hassenteufel said.

The president of the Plurinational Constitutional Court (TCP), Gonzalo Hurtado, said the meeting was a historic moment because it was the first time the two full chambers had met.

Hurtado said the meeting marked a “historic moment” as it was the first time the two full chambers had met.

The parties signed an agreement stating that the TSE will ensure that its decisions are based on the principle of legality and that it will resolve all matters within the technical electoral and legal jurisdiction of the 2025 electoral process with efficiency, effectiveness, speed and probity.

For its part, the TCP, within its jurisdiction and competence, will hear and resolve issues related to the 2025 General Elections with speed and timeliness, in accordance with the Political Constitution of the State.

The parties reaffirmed their willingness to guarantee respect for political rights and citizen participation during the electoral processes, including the protection of the rights of voters, candidates, political parties and democracy, for the sake of transparency and citizen confidence in the Bolivian democratic system.

However, in order to provide security in the run-up to the general elections in August this year, the TSE is committed to implementing the rapid vote counting system, for which it will request an additional budget from the National Treasury, Francisco Vargas said on Friday.
