According to the mayor of Cúcuta, Jorge Acevedo, more than 1,200 people arrived in that city crowding the city’s hall interior, and other nearby public areas, such as Santander Park.
The official warned that the number was expected to exceed 2,000 in the coming hours and praised the citizens of that city who were offering food and other aid to those in need.
According to the director of the Departmental Health Institute, Fernando Alvarez, Part of the population fleeing the fighting also sought refuge in the municipality of Ocaña, where some 300 persons arrived.
