In a collective statement, it was highlighted that deputies of the Health and Labor Commission of the National Assembly (parliament) failed to discuss Bill 163 article by article and consensus on the proposals of citizens issued in consultations throughout the country.
In this sense, they urged for talks facing the people and with discussions that can be televised with the presence of experts from the International Labour Organization, presenting the economic and financial support of the only public entity that serves retirees.
In response to the call of the Legislature to vote tomorrow Monday the first block of 50 articles of the initiative, the alliance denounced that, it looks as if the deputies have been subjected to pressures, threats, and blackmail by the Government to impose their will.
Among the noted aspects, is that the appointment by the president of the Board of Directors and Director of the CSS is maintained, as well as does not contemplate the imprescriptibility of the theft of the workers’ contributions.
They also indicated the deputies and benches who are willing to support the increase in the retirement age and the privatization of the funds of all programs of the CSS, which is contrary to what the people have expressed demanding the resumption and strengthening of the solidarity system and the non-privatization and reduction of pensions.
With these decisions, they added, the parliamentarians would be opting for an exit that would deepen inequality, make the rich richer, and condemn the vast majority of Panamanian workers to poverty in their old age.
