According to the Ipsos poll for La Tribune Dimanche, that part of the respondents fear that the 47th president’s policies are “dangerous for global stability.”
A similar number of respondents also felt that the real estate magnate could exert a negative influence on relations between France and the United States. During his first term (2017-2021), Trump and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, lived tense moments, although the official sees an advantage in the fact that Macron worked with the Republican, who without entering the White House has sparked several controversies, mentioning purposes such as the annexation of Canada and control of Greenland and the Panama Canal.
The Ipsos poll also reveals that six out of 10 French distrust the European Union’s ability to protect its economy from the protectionist and nationalist measures of Joe Biden’s successor.
Four years ago, the unfavorable opinion of Trump was even higher, at around 70% of those surveyed at the time.
