Victims reported by explosion of mines in Syria

Damascus, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian Civil Defense reported today eight victims as a result of the explosion of mines left over from the war, in the provinces of Aleppo and Latakia, in the north and northwest of the country.

Two farmers were killed by the explosion of a mine implanted in the agricultural lands in Al-Qarmil village in Jabal Al-Akrad area in Latakia, the Civil Defense reported.

It added that six other people, including two children, were injured, some seriously, in two mine blast incidents in Aleppo countryside.

The first blast occurred in Tuwais locality in Al-Bab municipality and left two young boys seriously injured, including the amputation of their lower limbs.

As for the second one, it occurred in Zuyan and left four civilians injured and fractured.

The Civil Defense stated that the remnants of the war represent a “death deferred for Syrians,” threatening lives and preventing civilians from returning to their homes.

The Syrian Civil Defense pointed out the growing number of casualties as a result of mine explosions, especially in agricultural areas, which has set the death toll at 32 during the period from November 27 to January 5.
