Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said millions of US users are deeply connected to the service, which has contributed positively to the US economy by promoting employment and domestic consumption.
She said Beijing expects US authorities to listen rationally and provide an open, fair, and non-discriminatory business environment for foreign companies operating in its market.
The spokeswoman also mentioned the possibility of the US having a 50% stake in a joint venture to allow TikTok to keep operations in that territory.
“We believe that decisions related to the operation and acquisition of companies should be based on market principles, with companies making autonomous decisions. If they are Chinese companies, they should comply with China’s laws and regulations,” she said.
TikTok thanked President-elect Donald Trump for the assurances given to internet service providers allowing the platform to operate.
