“(The state of) Portuguesa and all of Venezuela have lost a great cultural icon, a representative of our traditions and idiosyncrasy, who has passed away to heavenly grace”, the President wrote on Telegram social network.
“My heartfelt message of solidarity, condolences and commitment to his family and followers!” he added.
Maduro indicated Delgado will be remembered for his versatility, and recalled his well-known poem La Leyenda del Silbón (The Whistler’s Legend), “a piece inspired by a local feeling of belonging.”
He pointed out that this piece has been widely disseminated among the “Viva Venezuela! Great Mission”, upon which “our dearest national and affirmative symbols have taken roots to contribute to make Venezuela a beautiful and splendid country. Culture or Nothing!”, he said.
The Venezuelan Ministry for Culture and its affiliated entities voiced on Saturday, on their Instagram account, their deep sorrow for the poet’s passing, who left an invaluable legacy with La Leyenda del Silbón, considered one of the most emblematic pieces of the Venezuelan plains.
