Afghanistan highlights good state of relations with China

Kabul, Jan 21 (Prensa Latina) Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai praised Afghanistan's relations with China over the past seven decades.

During the celebration in Kabul for the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and China, Stanikzai described the bilateral ties as historic, adding that with the return of the Islamic Emirate (Taliban government), the political and economic relationship between the two countries have been strengthened more than ever.

In the last three years, especially in 2024, more Chinese businessmen and tourists than ever have traveled to Afghanistan. Today, thousands of Chinese citizens are present in Afghan cities, some for tourism and others for investment and trade, Stanikzai said.

The Chinese ambassador to Kabul, Zhao Xing, emphasized that China is the only important country that has not interfered in the affairs of Afghanistan; it has supported the position of the Islamic Emirate in international forums and called for the lifting of sanctions against the Central Asian country.

China has always been an important partner in Afghanista’s economic and social reconstruction. The diplomat said, that through cooperation between the governments and enterprises of the two countries, key projects have progressed smoothly. In 2024, China’s direct cooperation in Afghanistan recorded the highest growth rate among its investments in Asian countries. Trade between China and Afghanistan should exceed 1,5 billion dollars in 2025.
