In a statement, the organization stressed the importance of the agreement between Hamas and Israel while warning about Israel’s accountability for the crimes against humanity perpetrated against Palestine in recent months and years.
The truce, while essential, is only a first step, and Israel must not be allowed to look for ways to breach that pact. The international community can no longer play a secondary role of mere condemnation, but use all its power to demand a permanent end to the occupation of Gaza and the West Bank.
It also advocated ensuring unrestricted humanitarian aid and the right of Palestinians to return to all parts of their territory.
The union noted that more than 109,000 people have been injured and thousands reported missing in recent months in Gaza and expressed alarm at such atrocious figures.
We reject Israel’s grave violations of human rights and the laws of war. We call for accountability for those responsible for these crimes. Violence against the Palestinian people must cease immediately, as must the advance of illegal settlements in the West Bank and the permanent presence of settlers and the army of the occupying state.
Israel, protected and backed by the United States, must be forced to leave the Palestinian territories, and end the occupation, oppression, and apartheid regime, it adds.
