russias-floating-nuclear-power-plant-marks-milestone
Moscow, Jan 21 (Prensa Latina) The Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom announced that the floating thermal nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov reached an important energy milestone, after generating the first billion kilowatts (kW).

The generation reached as a receiver the Chaun-Bilibino energy center of the Chukotka Autonomous District, in the Russian Far East, according to the statement of the entity.

Rosatom added that the plant located in the port city of Pevek, is the only floating low-power nuclear power plant in operation, as well as the northernmost in the world, commissioned in May 2020, when it became the eleventh of its kind industrially operated on Russian territory.

The agency said the plant has supplied more than 60% of the electricity received by the plant, covering generation for the western Chukotka region and the village of Chersky in Russia’s Sakha Republic, also known as Yakutia. Rosatom said the plant has been increasing electricity production annually, exceeding the state target of Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service in recent years.

Local media report that it generated 250 million kW of electricity in 2024, almost double what it generated in 2020.
