Rojas stated on X that President Petro and members of his cabinet are expected at the signing ceremony of seven cooperation agreements between the two countries, which was planned to take place today. He also announced that he had a pleasant meeting with Voltaire in the historic city of Jacmel, where the Liberator Simón Bolívar lived. “We owe our independence to Haiti,” Rojas wrote on X regarding his visit.
The Colombian vice minister has been in Haiti since the 20th when a binational meeting at the ministerial level began to seal collaboration and investment agreements.
Last December, Gustavo Petro and Voltaire agreed to create a new alliance between the two nations. The dignitaries agreed to collaborate on various issues such as consolidating peace, strengthening state institutions, economic and commercial promotion, justice, migration, and public security.
The Colombian president promised to offer support to solve the crisis affecting Haiti. Voltaire, in response, expressed his backing for peace efforts in Colombia and acknowledged the efforts of the Government achieved so far.
Both leaders also reaffirmed their intention to deepen trade agreements with the Caribbean Community and collaborate in the modernization of the Haitian agricultural sector.
