According to the Egyptian Presidency, the two leaders held a telephone conversation to discuss the situation in the Middle East, especially around the Gaza Strip.
The Egyptian leader explained Cairo’s work to stop the violence, which culminated in the current truce.
The ceasefire should be used as a cornerstone to restore calm in the region, said El-Sisi, who requested increasing humanitarian aid for the Strip, which has been devastated by the conflict. He also stressed the importance of international cooperation in the implementation of the agreement and estimated that it should pave the way for a political solution.
Putin, for his part, highlighted Egypt’s role in the negotiations and its continued efforts to stabilise the region.
The statement stressed that both leaders also defended the unity and territorial integrity of Syria.
In addition, the heads of state discussed the situation in Lebanon, Libya and Sudan, the statement said.
