In his speech at the presentation, held the day before, the Foreign Minister indicated that his country understands that peace goes beyond the cessation of violence: “it is the construction of justice, the reconciliation of nations and the healing of the wounds left behind by history”, according to a note issued by the Foreign Ministry.
The official added that lasting peace is only possible on the pillars of social and environmental justice, political inclusion and reconciliation.
If the request is approved, this would be the eighth time that the country would be a member of the aforementioned body.
According to the communiqué, with its approval, Colombia would offer the Council its own experience in peace building.
