The presentation of award is part of the event “I am a sincere man. Views of National Hero José Martí’s legacy,” which the association will develop during 2025 with the purpose of studying and promoting moments of the life, work and teachings of the Cuban Apostle.
The Pro Patria Award is the highest distinction granted by the SEAP to acknowledge the contributions of institutions to the country.
It was created in accordance with the budgets that have supported the Economic Society of Friends of the Country since its founding 232 years ago, journalist and literary critic Fernando Sosa explained during the session of the event.
He added that for the Society, it is an honor to give this award to a studies center that has been in charge of saving the memory of Latin American hero Ernesto Che Guevara since it was established.
A man of his time and of all times, who fought with his ideas for human improvement and who has left an indelible imprint on the history and culture of the Cuban nation and the contemporary world, Sosa concluded.
Present at the awarding ceremony on behalf of the research center were Aleida March and Aleida Guevara March, Che Guevara’s widow and daughter, respectively, who expressed the emotion felt by all their colleagues and deeply thanked the members of the Society for managing to stay high for so long.
