In the letter to Von der Leyen, quoted by Pravda newspaper, the Smer-SD MEPs expressed that they were calling on the EC to comply with its responsibilities arising from the fundamental treaties to protect the member States’ interests.
They underscored that they did not understand Zelensky’s decision to stop gas transit unilaterally, despite the agreements reached with the Ukrainian government on this issue.
Lawmakers from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Czech Republic, Greece, and Cyprus also signed the letter addressed to Von der Leyen.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that Bratislava would take the harshest steps against Ukraine if Russian gas transit is not resolved, and declared that his country could use its veto power in the EU on topics related to Ukraine.
